Daydreamer Fallen Empires: a solo narrative rpg

Hello to all

Today, I wanted to dream. To think quietly about my adventure, ten minutes in transport, an hour in a boring meeting. That's how Daydreamer was born. Daydreamer is a game specially designed for those who want to dream about their adventures, taking their time and not bothering with complex rules.

The simplest rules in the world, again

Daydreamer is the culmination of SAALT.
A few years ago, I wrote an ultra-simple system - which I soberly called "The simplest system in the world".
The heart of the system was two lines: During each scene where the outcome is uncertain and represents a danger of death
Choose a character and roll 1d6. 1-2: he dies 3-4: he is injured 5-6: he is safe
Whatever the result, the other characters end up resolving the scene and move on to the next one
Everything else is resolved by the narration.

Daydreamer takes this base and makes it almost as simple as possible. Thus, the player has the possibility to add his own rules if he wishes.
After many tests, I can assure you that the system is unstoppable. Unstoppable in the sense that it exists for the narrative and never slows it down.

Tips and surprises

In addition to the tips you'll find on how to add panache to your games, you'll also find tips on how to see your adventures through to the end. I know from experience that while it's easy to start, it's often difficult to finish. In Daydreamer, you'll find a simple and intuitive structure for finishing your stories.

There are other surprises in the rules as well, such as secrets. Your characters may have secrets you don't know about!

But Daydreamer is much more than that.

Guided adventures

The heart of the system is the adventures framework. Each volume includes 12 guided adventures, suggested in the following form:

5 potentially deadly scenes per adventure. No more and no less. After that, you move on to the next.

Start the campaign right away
The book contains the Fallen Empire background
a minimalist plot: because when it's too long, people don't read it.
planets
quests to interpret
a shadow plot, to structure your campaign
lots of cool stuff

  1. This is really great! I would love you to create one for each major genre, starting with fantasy. Such a simple but innovative system. I will be using the quest, adventure, shadow plot, background mechanisms with my Sci-fi game of choice - Star Dogs. A perfect fit I reckon :-)

  3. Have you thought about publishing blog posts that are Actual Plays of the games that you make? I'd love to see an Actual Play of an adventure or two of Fallen Empires. I think it would be so cool to see exactly how you meant for these things to be played.
