Demi-humans for Dragonbones: The Dwarf

Hello to all !

Today we are talking about dwarfs.

Description: Dwarves are a proud, secretive people who live mainly in large citadels deep in the mountains. They are stubborn creatures who enjoy hearty meals and strong drink. Having a strong affinity with stone and minerals, they are experts in metallurgy. Thus they attach great value to gold and craftsmanship - which can be a corrupting weakness. Dwarves have a strong practical mind which makes them great builders and blacksmiths, but poor magicians.

Dwarves are often described as greedy and distrustful, but with a strong sense of honor and courage.

Preferred alignment: Loyal Good. Dwarf societies attach great importance to ritual and tradition. Coupled with their sense of honor, dwarves are often very loyal. Their spirit of solidarity in effort makes them naturally good creatures. It is possible to create conflicts of interest between the "loyal" and "good" aspects. Take the example of a leader who would lead his Dwarf troop into an unjust war or who would make a bad decision. What would the dwarf do? Would his actions be guided by loyalty or goodness? All this, knowing that Dwarves are corruptible in the face of an extraordinary jewel.

Preferred class: warrior, cleric

Thief: Dwarves are loyal creatures. They are no strangers to stealing, especially because of their love of gems, but it is not a vocation. Furthermore, their physical build does not allow them to excel in this class. A dwarf thief could be justified if he has a specific function in his community (sapper, trap master...)

Magician: Dwarves have no affinity with magic. They prefer mathematics, logic and construction. On the other hand, it is easier to find scholars, alchemists or herbalists (anything of "scientific" origin) among the ranks of dwarves.

Dwarf racial bonuses:

  • No armor restriction
  • Vigor +2, Agility -2
  • Displacement -1
  • Infravision, +4 bonus to all saving rolls against spells
  • Knowledge of stone work: Dwarves know everything there is to know about stone work (strength of a tunnel, history of a carved stone work, ...)
  • (optional) Ancestral enemies: +2 to hit and -2 to AC when fighting the following creatures: elves, gnomes, dwarves, kobolds, goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears, orcs, ogres, gnolls, giants humanoids (trolls, athaches, titans, all giants)
