Dragonbones: damages disambiguation and alternate system

Hello to all of you
First of all, I would like to thank you for the welcome you have given to Dragonbones! In the game, the rule states that in the case of several attackers, the HP of the monster is evaluated according to the level of the main character

But what happens when there is more than one main character? Indeed, some DMs seem to want their players to take advantage of Dragonbones for multiplayer games

On reflection, the system shows a flaw in this case. At least an ambiguity. In the case of several main characters, the system must be taken backward. It is enough to consider, not the number of health points of the monster, but the number of damage inflicted by the character. This doesn't change the rules, but it does complicate the calculations a bit:

The monsters all have 100% health points. Characters will inflict damage as a certain percentage depending on the level difference:

  • The character has a higher level: damage = 100% ( instant death)
  • The character has an equal level: in the basic rules, the monster has 2hp. It takes 2 hits to kill the monster. So, each hit inflicts 50% of the damage.
  • The character has one level less: the monster has 3hp, it takes 3 hits to kill it. Each hit inflicts 33%.
  • The character has 2 levels less... each hit inflicts 25%.....

We can determine the number of damage points inflicted by a character as follows:

Damage% = 1/(HD of the monster - HD of the character +1) [max 100%]

  Monster's HD
Character's HD 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
1 50% 33% 25% 20% 17% 14% 13% 11% 10%
2 100% 50% 33% 25% 20% 17% 14% 13% 11%
3 100% 100% 50% 33% 25% 20% 17% 14% 13%
4 100% 100% 100% 50% 33% 25% 20% 17% 14%
5 100% 100% 100% 100% 50% 33% 25% 20% 17%
6 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 50% 33% 25% 20%
7 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 50% 33% 25%

This comes down to this simplified table:

Monster's HD - Char's HD Damage%
-1 100%
050%
1 33%
2 25%
3 20%
4 17%
5 14%
6 13%
7 11%
8 10%

We can notice that from a certain level of difference, the difference is no longer significant enough (17%, 14%, 13%...). We can simplify by admitting that beyond 5 levels of difference, the damage is 10%.

Simplified table

Monster HD - Char HD Damage%
-1 or less100%
1 50%
2 33%
3 25%
4 20%
5+ 10%
