Challenge Ninja Solo Play #3: The Shell Dungeon

Continuation of the adventures of Herman Fatflower. A little dungeonering for a change... you may recognize the codes of John Four's 5 room-dungeons

Entrance

The shell is huge. It is a giant sea snail shell. A large telescope seems to pierce the top of the shell. Chained slaves are busy digging under the shell. Two half-orcs guard the entrance door.

Puzzle phase

Herman tries a bluff. "We have a very important document for the blacksmith."

[D20= 20 (critical success)] "But certainly my lord, it is in the basement. Here is a pass for the guards. Good day and may the winds be favorable to you".

The team finally finds Danush Axebrooke, the blacksmith. He knows he's working for the construction of an evil secret base, but he doesn't care because he's well paid.

Herman shows him the rusty sword, the elf pulls out a piece of a broken blade.

"These are the pieces of Vornoa, a legendary elven sword. The sword must lead to an ancient lost city inhabited by the first elves" [says the blacksmith - interpretation of the sphinx and the tablet. I imagine that the sword contains some kind of code or map].

Tension increases

Dampf interferes (gnome with a steampunk monocle) with 2 guards. [Dampf is the mechanist gnome, leader of the dungeon under construction. "What are these intruders doing here? The blacksmith replies "I have to give up my work here, I have a much more important mission. I have a much more important mission. Goodbye" -

Dampf: "That's out of the question. Guards!"]

Diversion, the flow of the liquid metal is deflected, battle between the blacksmith and the guards, slaves freed [by Herman who had by mistake stolen the keys].

[The blacksmith puts his life on the line.] D20=9 the blacksmith is injured.

Revelations before the final battle

Dampf: you don't understand, time is running out! I have to finish these mechanical legs to go underwater. This large telescope is actually a periscope. In a short time the big krakens will come back to feed themselves. All terrestrial life will disappear. This castle will allow us to create an underwater city and to survive like a Noah's Ark. [I deliver it to you here as I wrote it. You understand well that neither Noah nor his Ark ever set foot in the sea of DnD].

Herman: "We don't care, we're leaving."

Climax

Not so fast. Intervention of Digerbinder, the half-orc troop leader, a beastmaster accompanied by his giant wolf.

[Location] On a coral footbridge in a gorge.

The magician casts a spell d20=15.  Success! Thousands of Bernard Lhermitte assail the wolf [idem, it should be rewritten. This place could be an oasis of hermit crabs with coral shells - which would explain the giant shell, an ancient or a god dead for many years].

The group can flee but is caught by the half-orc.

The blacksmith fights. In my head, there was an implicit rivalry between the muscular blacksmith and the chief of the half orcs] D20=1. He dies.

Ending

Herman and Belanor leave for Koraldoor, the city of the coral blacksmiths.

[End of Act 1]

To be continued...
