Tic Tac... Make the map dynamic with an event timer

Fantasy map in minutes

Last week, we created the map of the Braix'Thana region in a few minutes. In this post, we'll see how this little background can evolve - again in minutes!Last week, we created the map of the Braix'Thana region in a few minutes. In this post, we'll see how this little background can evolve - again in minutes!

In this background, there are two front lines:

  • the conflict between Arkeans and the city of Algorathe
  • the impact of the meteorite. Let's assume that it is an invasive vegetation that feeds on magic

Between each adventure, roll 1d6 for each conflict

Arkeans vs Algora.

The campaign starts at stage 0

  • -2: The Arkeans are pushed back. The survivors flee by the sea
  • -1: The Akeans have suffered a heavy defeat and are demoralized
  • 0: The Akean army has landed on the beach south of Algora and has set up camp. They launch the first skirmishes to destabilize the city walls.
  • 1: The Arkean army besieges the city of Algora.
  • 2: The Arkean have taken the city of Algora

Roll 1d6 for the Arkeans and 1d6 for the city of Algora. Who has the best result?

  • Arkeans? Add 1 stage
  • Algora? Remove 1 stage
  • Draw? Don't move

It is also assumed that the characters will influence the course of events through their actions. A first adventure could be to find allies in the Towers of Wind to counter the Akean invasion. If successful, a +2 bonus is given to the roll of the city of Algora.

Invasive vegetation

Here, the situation is slightly different because there is no open conflict. The meteorite has fallen, but nobody cares. Maybe some scholars will go and take a closer look.

Roll 1d6 for the vegetation and 1d4 for the rest of the world. When real opposition arises to this alien threat, replace the d4 with 1d6.

  • -2: The invasive vegetation is very small. Some animals start to behave strangely, others run away from the forest. At this stage, the vegetation is trying to hide its nerve center.
  • -1: The invasive vegetation spreads in the forest. The place becomes dangerous for humans. Animals and plants are now under the control of the alien vegetation which seeks to fortify its new domain.
  • 0: The vegetation has taken total control of the forest. The place is forbidden to humans. Feeling the magic of the area, the vegetation will seek to spread towards Algora to suck all the magic out of the city.
  • 1: The invasive vegetation is installed in Algora. No more magic works in the city, nor on the battlefield. His new goal: To embark on an Arkean ship to continue to develop on the world.
  • 2: The vegetation comes from all over the forest and reaches the gates of Algora. It becomes a major threat for the whole region.

Of course we can have fun making a 2 entries table that details the evolution of the background at each step.

  • What happens if (-1) the Arkeans are demoralized AND the invasive vegetation has settled in Algora?
  • If the city's defenses are of magical origin (especially if they have received help from the magicians of the Towers of the Winds), this can change the future of the story.

But when creating the background, it is not necessary to detail the possibilities. This remains the prerogative of the storyteller
